Cherry Street
Seasonal service change - Effective Sunday, January 1, 2006

The Toronto-Rochester ferry will not sail in January, February, and most of March. As a result, Monday and Friday service on the 172 Cherry Street route will be eliminated for the winter. The last day of Friday service will be December 30, 2005. Weekday service is planned to resume in late March 2006, when the ferry resumes sailing.

Saturday, Sunday, and holiday service on the 172 Cherry Street route will be shortened to operate on the 172A (Union Station-Commissioners) branch. Service will operate every 15 minutes on Saturdays and every 30 minutes on Sundays and holidays. At Commissioners Street, buses will loop via south on Cherry Street, east on Villiers Street, south on Munition Street, west on Commissioners Street, and north on Cherry Street. Weekend service is planned to return to Cherry Beach and the ferry terminal in late March 2006, when the ferry resumes sailing.

Buses will be given more time to complete their trips because of traffic congestion resulting from the closure of Finch Avenue between Sentinel Road and Driftwood Avenue as a result of the August 19 flood. Service levels will remain unchanged. Specific trip times will change. Some buses temporarily operated on this route may not be accessible. This temporary service will be operated until Finch Avenue is fully reopened.

New Monday-Friday midday and early evening service will be operated for a trial period on the 139 Finch East route, between Don Mills Station and Scottfield Drive. The service will operate on a new 139C (Don Mills Station-Middlefield) branch. At the east end of the route, buses will use a clockwise on-street loop via Finch Avenue, Scottfield Drive, Middlefield Road, and Finch Avenue. Service will operate every 30 minutes.

Minor changes have been made to the first two trips in the morning peak period in the Roywood Drive area. The first two buses, at approximately 6:15 and 6:27 a.m., now begin service eastbound on Roywood Drive at Underpass Gate, instead of a few blocks farther east at Roywood Drive and Fenside Road. There are no other changes to routings, trip times, or service levels.

On route 41 there may be a longer wait for buses during peak periods, Monday-Friday, and during the daytime on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. On routes 60, 84 and 106 service levels will remain unchanged, but specific trip times will change. Some of the buses temporarily operated on routes 60, 84 and 106 may not be accessible. This temporary service will be operated until Finch Avenue is fully reopened.

The routing of two morning and two afternoon school trips at Michael Power/St. Joseph Catholic Secondary School will be changed to allow the buses to avoid the delays caused by traffic congestion on streets around the school. The morning trips will operate west on Rathburn Road and north on Renforth Drive to the school. The afternoon trips will start in service at the school and operate to Royal York Station via east on Eringate Drive, south on Wellesworth Drive, and east on the regular route on Rathburn Road.

During both peak periods, service on the 224C (Don Mills Station-14th Avenue) and 224D (Don Mills Station-Major Mackenzie & Hazelton) branches will change from every 35 minutes to every 40 minutes, and the combined service south of Steelcase Road will change from every 17 minutes 30 seconds to every 20 minutes.
