A word about Holiday service — Victoria Day

A regular holiday service will be scheduled on Victoria Day, Monday, May 22, 2000. This means that routes which operate on Sundays will operate at the same levels of service as on Sundays, but service will start earlier in the morning, at about the same time as on Saturdays.

There will be two exceptions;
Holiday service increase on 23 Dawes and 64 Main; Service will be increased on Victoria Day, May 22, to the same level as is provided on Sundays and holidays in the summer. Buses will run every 15 minutes.

  • Service will be operated during the early evening on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, from April 30 to September 4, to accommodate increased travel to and from the Harbourfront area and the Toronto Islands. With this change, the last northbound trip will leave Queens Quay at approximately 10:30 p.m. The trip times in the evening on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays will be the same as they are from Monday to Friday.

  • During the afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday, buses will run every 4 to 5 minutes between Bloor Street and Lake Shore Boulevard.

Seasonal route extension

  • The route will be extended into the Exhibition grounds, to provide service closer to Ontario Place. Buses will operate south on Dufferin, east on Saskatchewan Drive, east on Princes' Boulevard, west on Quebec Street, and south on Ontario Drive to Princes' Boulevard. Buses will return west on Princes' Boulevard, west on Saskatchewan Drive, and north on Dufferin. This service will operate after approximately 9:00 a.m., seven days a week, except for when major events are being held on the Exhibition grounds. Minor changes will be made to trip times. The extended service will be operated until the time the CNE begins operation, in mid-August.

Route name change

  • The name of the route will be changed from 105 Wilson Heights to 105 Dufferin North, to better describe the area served by the route.

Route extension

  • The 105 Dufferin North route (formerly 105 Wilson Heights) will be extended north from its present terminus at Centre Street to Rutherford Road. The interval between buses will change from 15 min to 17 min in the morni3ng, and will remain at 15 min in the afternoon. During the midday and early evening from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays, buses will run every 60 minutes.

Northbound – From Downsview Station, east on Sheppard Avenue, north on Wilson Heights Boulevard, west on Kennard Drive, north on Dufferin Street, west and north on Confederation Parkway to Rutherford Road.

Southbound – From Confederation Parkway and Rutherford Road, east on Rutherford Road, south on Dufferin Street, east on Kennard Avenue, south on Wilson Heights Boulevard, west on Sheppard Avenue to Downsview Station.

Temporary route change

  • A project to rebuild the track at several locations along Dundas Street will require that streetcars be removed from the 505 Dundas and 506/306 Carlton routes on Saturdays and Sundays from April 30 to June 10. The entire 505 Dundas route will operate with buses, from Broadview Station to Dundas West Station, and will be scheduled to operate over the usual route. Service will be made more frequent, because the buses have a smaller capacity than the streetcars.

  • The 506 Carlton route will be affected by the construction on one weekend, and the 306 Carlton overnight route will be affected on two weekends. When necessary, streetcars on these routes will be turned back east from Lansdowne, and buses will operate between Lansdowne and High Park to replace the 506 Carlton service, and between Lansdowne and Dundas West Station to replace the 306 Carlton overnight service.

Seasonal route extension

  • The route will be extended to Ontario Place and Exhibition Place from April 30, to provide direct summer service between Union Station and these waterfront attractions. The extension to Ontario Place and Exhibition Place will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, to correspond with Ontario Place's early-season hours.

  • The last trip from Union Station to Ontario Place will be at approximately 6:40 p.m., and the last trip from Ontario Place will depart at approximately 7:00 p.m.

  • Service on this route will change further from June 11 (service to Ontario Place and Exhibition Place will run all week long and later in the evening), and after July 23 (the route will be discontinued, replaced in part by the new 509 Harbourfront streetcar route).

Westbound – Over the regular route west on Queens Quay and north on Stadium Road, then west on Lake Shore, south on Ontario Place Drive, west on Remembrance Drive to Ontario Place.

Eastbound – From Ontario Place, north and west on the internal roadways, across Lake Shore Boulevard at Ontario Drive, north on Ontario Drive, east on Princes' Boulevard, through the Princes' Gates, south on Strachan, east on Lake Shore, and south on Bathurst, continuing on the regular route east on Queens Quay.

Temporary route change

  • The north-end loop used by this route will be temporarily changed, as a result of the City of Toronto project to rebuild the bridge which runs through the intersection of Jane Street and Steeles Avenue. Both roads will remain open, but will be restricted to not more than two lanes at most times. This project will begin in late April, and will last until October. The route changes described below will last until mid-October. The routing of the 84D Sheppard West service will also be changed, and additional running time will be scheduled on 60 Steeles West.

  • The 35 (Jane Stn-Steeles via Pioneer Village) branch will continue to operate over the present route. To reduce the effects of traffic delays, additional running time and buses will be added, during the midday and afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday, and during the daytime on Saturday.

  • The 35A (Jane Stn-Steeles via Hullmar) branch will be changed to avoid the Jane/Steeles intersection, and will instead operate over a large on-street loop using York Gate Boulevard, Hullmar Drive, and Jane Street. To reduce travel time for the majority of customers, buses will loop counter-clockwise in the morning peak period, and clockwise in the afternoon peak period. Buses on this branch will not operate on Peter Kaiser Boulevard, Steeles, or on Jane between Steeles and Hullmar.

  • The 35C (Jane Stn-Steeles) branch will continue to operate over the present route. To reduce the effects of traffic delays, additional running time and buses will be added during the morning peak period, midday, and afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday, and during the daytime on Saturday.

  • The 35D (Jane Stn-Langstaff) branch will continue to operate over the present route. To reduce the effects of traffic delays, recovery time will be changed to running time during the morning peak period, the midday, and the afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday, and during the daytime on Saturday. No buses will be added.

  • The 35E (Jane Stn-York University Express) branch will be changed to avoid the Jane/Steeles intersection. Buses will operate to and from York University, in both directions, via Jane, Shoreham Drive, and Ian McDonald Boulevard. Express service will be removed from Jane north of Shoreham, and from Steeles.

New service

  • At the request of Vaughan Transit, all service on Sundays and holidays will be extended north to Major Mackenzie Drive, and will operate on the 107C (Downsview Stn-Major Mackenzie) branch, instead of the 107 (Downsview Stn-Rutherford) branch. Buses will run every 40 minutes. With this change, Sunday and holiday service will be removed from Jacob Keffer Parkway and Gantner Gate.

Seasonal contracted service change

  • At the request of Vaughan Transit, service will be removed from York University for the summer, as ridership will be reduced as the York University term ends. There will be no change to trip times, but all buses will operate on the 107B and 107C branches, instead of on the 107D and 107F branches via the University.

  • The fare zone boundary overlap between Steeles and York Boulevard allows customers travelling in either direction between Vaughan and the York University area to travel at one fare between Vaughan and the stop on Keele Street at York Boulevard.

Service increase

  • At the request of Vaughan Transit, service will be increased during the morning and afternoon peak periods from Monday to Friday. The service south of Rivermede Road will change from every 10 min to every 9 min in the morning, and from every 12 min to every 10 min in the afternoon.

  • A project to rebuild the track near Long Branch Loop will require that streetcars be removed from the 501 Queen and 508 Lake Shore routes, west of Kipling Avenue, for approximately three weeks in May. When this is necessary, streetcars will be turned back east at Kipling Loop, and a replacement bus service will be operated between Long Branch Loop and Kipling Avenue.

Seasonal service change

  • Service will be changed during the daytime on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, to improve reliability. There is heavy vehicular congestion in the Beach on weekends and holidays during the summer, and this has resulted in the past in unreliable operation. In anticipation of this congestion, the streetcar service on 501 Queen will be adjusted on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays to give additional running time over the section east of Kingston Road, between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. On both days, the scheduled time between streetcars will be reduced slightly.

  • The route will be extended to the Toronto Zoo on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, until approximately 8:30 p.m. Buses will follow the same routing to the zoo as they do from Monday to Friday. There will be no change to the interval between buses on the route. The route extension will be operated until Labour Day, Monday, September 4, 2000.

  • The 84D branch will be changed to avoid the Jane/Steeles intersection, and will instead turn around on Sante Drive and Adesso Drive, north of Steeles Avenue, one block west of Jane Street. Buses on this branch will not operate on Steeles between Adesso and Jane, on Jane between Steeles and Hullmar, or on Peter Kaiser Drive. There will be no change to trip times. A walking transfer will be permitted between 84 Sheppard West buses at Steeles and Adesso and 35 Jane buses at Steeles and Jane.

510 Spadina

Seasonal service increase

  • Service will be increased during the daytime and early evening on Sundays and holidays, to accommodate increased travel to the Harbourfront area. All streetcars will operate on the 510 Spadina (Spadina Stn-Union Stn) branch. Service will be increased on Queens Quay, and will run every 3 to 4 minutes.

Summer weekend fare collection at Union Station

  • On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from May 20 to September 4, a modified fare collection procedure at Harbourfront will be used, in order to speed boarding at busy stops at busy times. As in previous years, fare collectors will be stationed at Union Station, starting at 3:00 p.m. Customers who board at the eastbound stops on Queens Quay at Rees Street, Simcoe Street, and York Street, and at the northbound platform at Queens Quay Station will enter the streetcars through any door and will not pay a fare or be issued a transfer. Customers boarding cars at these four stops will pay their fares instead when the leave the streetcar loop at Union Station. Normal pay-as-you-enter fare collection and transfer-issuing procedures will be used at all other stops on the route. This fare collection procedure will be used up to and including Labour Day. From Monday to Friday during the summer, and seven days a week after Labour Day, normal pay-as-you-enter fare collection will apply in both directions.

  • The first trip will arrive at the park at approximately 9:34 a.m. on Saturdays, and at 9:27 a.m. on Sundays and holidays. The last trip will leave from the park at 10:40 p.m. on Saturdays, and at 7:23 p.m. (to York Mills Stn, with a later trip at 8:09 p.m. to Steeles Avenue only) on Sundays and holidays.

  • Buses to the park will operate every 30 minutes during the daytime on Saturdays, and approximately every 50 minutes during the evening on Saturdays and the daytime on Sundays and holidays. Trip times in Toronto will not change.

  • Customers travelling on 165 Weston Rd North buses north of Steeles Avenue are required to pay a valid South York Region transit fare.
