Street Track Project - 2003

Continuing
through to October 2003, the Toronto Transit Commission will
be replacing the streetcar rails on King Street from River
Street in the east end to Close Avenue in the west end.

Service
change for streetcar track reconstruction on King Street continue,
with a two major projects, between Shaw Street and Spadina Avenue,
and between Charlotte Street and Church Street.

Streetcars
on the 504 King route will be diverted eastbound via
Shaw, Queen, and Church streets, and westbound via Church, Richmond,
Victoria, Queen, and Shaw streets. Cars on the 503 Kingston
Rd route will be diverted via Queen and Church streets. Cars on
the 508 Lake Shore route will be diverted via Shaw
Street and Queen Street, and in the afternoon peak period will loop
via Church, Richmond, and Victoria streets.
King
streetcar bus replacement service
-
A
temporary bus replacement service for the King Street East part of
the 504 King streetcar route will be operated, seven days a
week, from mid-May to early July (dates subject to change). The
service will operate from Queen & Broadview to Union Station,
via Eastern Avenue and Front Street. At Union Station, buses will
serve the same eastbound stop on Front Street at Bay Street that is
served by the 72A Pape and 65A
Parliament routes. At Queen and
Broadview, buses will turn around via west on Queen Street, north on
Carroll Street, east on Dundas Street, and south on Broadview
Avenue. Customers will transfer between buses and streetcars at the
corner of Broadview Avenue and Queen Street. The replacement bus
service will operate every 15 minutes.

Queens Quay at approximately 10:30 p.m. This service will be
operated from May 11 to September 1, 2003.

The
City of Toronto will reconstruct Bay Street over much of its length
in May and June. To minimise delays, additional time will be added
to the schedules for the 6 Bay route, during the peak periods and
midday from Monday to Friday, to reduce delays from traffic
congestion. There will be no change to service levels, but specific
trip times will be changed.

route will be operated by streetcars from High Park Loop to Coxwell

service from Pape Station and Don Mills Station to York Region on
the 25D Don Mills (Pape Stn-16th Ave) branch on
Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays will be eliminated, at the request
of York Region Transit. All weekend and holiday service will operate
on the 25 (Pape Stn-Steeles via Don Mills Station) branch only.
There will be no change to service levels or trip times in Toronto.
There will be no change to service from Monday to Friday. Service on
Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays north of Steeles Avenue will be
provided by YRT on their Route 90 – Leslie. This route will
operate between Don Mills and Steeles Avenue and the Elgin Mills
Community Centre at Bathurst Street and Shaftsbury Avenue. Buses
will run every 60 minutes. Customers will be required to pay an
additional fare at Steeles and Don Mills when connecting between YRT
and TTC services. Free transfers will not be allowed between
YRT and TTC services.

route will be extended into the Exhibition grounds, to provide
service closer to Ontario Place. This frequent service will operate
after approximately 9:00 a.m., seven days a week, except for when

On the north-end on-street loop on Skyway and Carlingview, the end of
the line will change in the morning and in the afternoon, to minimise
the number of customers who must wait out a layover on the bus. In the
morning, buses will travel over the entire on-street loop and the end
of the line will be southbound on Carlingview Drive north of
International Boulevard. In the afternoon, the end of the line will be
at the beginning of the on-street loop, on International Boulevard

route extension — Contracted service for York Region Transit

At the request of
York Region Transit, service will be extended to Canada's Wonderland,
on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, from Saturday, May 10 to Sunday,
October 12, 2003. The extended service will operate during the daytime
and early evening on Saturdays, and during the daytime on Sundays and
holidays. Buses to the park will operate every 30 minutes during the
daytime on Saturdays, approximately every 50 minutes during the
evening on Saturdays, and every 40 to 48 minutes on Sundays and
holidays. Trip times in Toronto will not change.

Southbound/eastbound — From Canada's Wonderland, south
on Jane Street, west on Major Mackenzie Drive (not serving the
off-street loop at Major Mackenzie Drive and Weston Road), south on
Weston Road, east on Walsh Avenue, east on Wilson Avenue (serving
Wilson Stn) to York Mills Stn.
Westbound/northbound — From York Mills Stn, west on
Wilson Avenue (serving Wilson Stn), west on Walsh Avenue, north on
Weston Road, east on Major Mackenzie Drive (not serving the
off-street loop at Major Mackenzie Drive and Weston Road), north on
Jane Street, entering the park at the bus entrance west from Jane
Street.

Sunday - First 9:48 a.m.; Last 7:23 p.m. **
** Two later trips depart at 7:45 and 8:09 p.m. to Finch & Weston

Fares - Service north of Steeles Avenue is in the York Region
fare zone. A valid York Region fare must be paid.

service reduction

Seasonal service
reductions will be made, to match reduced ridership levels during the
summer as a result of reduced travel to and from York University.
Service will operate every 10 minutes in the peak periods and every 15
minutes during the midday from Monday to Friday. There will be no
change to service in the early evenings or on Saturday.
