King Street Track Project - 2003

• Continuing through to October 2003, the Toronto Transit Commission will be replacing the streetcar rails on King Street from River Street in the east end to Close Avenue in the west end.

• Service change for streetcar track reconstruction on King Street continue, with a two major projects, between Shaw Street and Spadina Avenue, and between Charlotte Street and Church Street.

• Streetcars on the 504 King route will be diverted eastbound via Shaw, Queen, and Church streets, and westbound via Church, Richmond, Victoria, Queen, and Shaw streets. Cars on the 503 Kingston Rd route will be diverted via Queen and Church streets. Cars on the 508 Lake Shore route will be diverted via Shaw Street and Queen Street, and in the afternoon peak period will loop via Church, Richmond, and Victoria streets.

King streetcar bus replacement service

• A temporary bus replacement service for the King Street East part of the 504 King streetcar route will be operated, seven days a week, from mid-May to early July (dates subject to change). The service will operate from Queen & Broadview to Union Station, via Eastern Avenue and Front Street. At Union Station, buses will serve the same eastbound stop on Front Street at Bay Street that is served by the 72A Pape and 65A Parliament routes. At Queen and Broadview, buses will turn around via west on Queen Street, north on Carroll Street, east on Dundas Street, and south on Broadview Avenue. Customers will transfer between buses and streetcars at the corner of Broadview Avenue and Queen Street. The replacement bus service will operate every 15 minutes.

6 Bay

Later weekend and holiday service

• Service will be operated during the early evening on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, to accommodate increased summertime travel to and from the Harbourfront area and the Toronto Islands. Buses will run every 20 minutes. With this change, the last northbound trip will leave Queens Quay at approximately 10:30 p.m. This service will be operated from May 11 to September 1, 2003.

Temporary schedule change during City of Toronto road construction

• The City of Toronto will reconstruct Bay Street over much of its length in May and June. To minimise delays, additional time will be added to the schedules for the 6 Bay route, during the peak periods and midday from Monday to Friday, to reduce delays from traffic congestion. There will be no change to service levels, but specific trip times will be changed.

• The 6 (Dupont-Jarvis via Ferry Docks) branch will be renamed 6 (Dupont-Queens Quay & Jarvis via Ferry Docks) branch, and the 6A (Bloor-Front and Lake Shore Blvd) branch will be renamed 6A (Bloor-Queens Quay & Yonge) branch, to more accurately describe the southern terminals.

306 Carlton

Track and bridge rehabilitation

• Track reconstruction from Main Street Station to Enderby Road (one block west of Main Street & Gerrard Street), and City of Toronto rehabilitation of the Main Street bridge over the CNR, will begin in May and will last throughout much of the summer. The 506 Carlton route will be operated by streetcars from High Park Loop to Coxwell Avenue & Queen Street, and by buses from Main Street Station to Gerrard Street & Broadview Avenue. Buses on the 506 Carlton route will operate every 8 to every 10 minutes during the day. The 306 Carlton overnight route will be operated by streetcars from Dundas West Station to Coxwell Avenue & Queen Street, and by buses from Main Street Station to Queen’s Park Station. Service on the 306 Carlton route will be every 30 minutes.

25 Don Mills

Weekend service elimination – York Region Transit request

• Direct service from Pape Station and Don Mills Station to York Region on the 25D Don Mills (Pape Stn-16^th Ave) branch on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays will be eliminated, at the request of York Region Transit. All weekend and holiday service will operate on the 25 (Pape Stn-Steeles via Don Mills Station) branch only. There will be no change to service levels or trip times in Toronto. There will be no change to service from Monday to Friday. Service on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays north of Steeles Avenue will be provided by YRT on their Route 90 – Leslie. This route will operate between Don Mills and Steeles Avenue and the Elgin Mills Community Centre at Bathurst Street and Shaftsbury Avenue. Buses will run every 60 minutes. Customers will be required to pay an additional fare at Steeles and Don Mills when connecting between YRT and TTC services. Free transfers will not be allowed between YRT and TTC services.

29 Dufferin

Seasonal route extension to Ontario Place

• The route will be extended into the Exhibition grounds, to provide service closer to Ontario Place. This frequent service will operate after approximately 9:00 a.m., seven days a week, except for when major events are being held on the Exhibition grounds. This service will begin on May 11 and will continue until mid-August.

Summer weekend fare collection at Union Station

• On Saturday, Sunday, and holiday afternoons from May 11 to September 1, a modified fare collection procedure will be used at Harbourfront, in order to speed boarding at busy stops at busy times.

• Customers who board streetcars at the eastbound stops on Queens Quay at Bathurst Street, Portland Street, Spadina Avenue, Rees Street, Simcoe Street, and York Street, and at the northbound platform at Queens Quay Station, will enter the streetcars through any door and will not pay a fare or be issued a transfer.

• Customers boarding cars at these stops will pay their fares instead when leaving the streetcar loop at Union Station.

• Normal pay-as-you-enter fare collection and transfer-issuing procedures will be used at all other stops on the 509 Harbourfront and the 510 Spadina routes. This fare collection procedure will be used up to and including Labour Day. From Monday to Friday during the summer, and seven days a week after Labour Day, normal pay-as-you-enter fare collection will apply at all stops.

191 Highway 27 Rocket

Seasonal service reduction

• Several trips on the 191A Highway 27 Rocket (Humber College-Kipling Stn) branch will be removed for the summer, as classes at Humber College end in early May.

These trips will be cancelled:

Northbound trips from Kipling Station at 8:50, 9:10, 9:30, 9:50, 10:10, and 10:30 a.m.
Southbound trips from Humber College at 9:29, 9:49, 10:09, and 10:29 a.m.

107 Keele North

Seasonal routing change –York Region Transit request

• At the request of York Region Transit, service will be removed from York University for the summer, as ridership will be reduced as the York University term ends. There will be no change to the service levels. The fare zone boundary overlap between Steeles and York Boulevard allows customers travelling in either direction between Vaughan and the York University area to travel at one fare between Vaughan and the stop on Keele Street at York Boulevard.

Weekend service reduction – York Region Transit request

• At the request of York Region Transit, service to Teston Road will be reduced on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Every second bus will operate only as far north as the bus loop at the Maple Arena, just south of McNaughton Road, on a new 107D (Downsview Stn-McNaughton) branch.

• Service north of McNaughton Road to Teston Road will change from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes during the daytime and early evening on Saturday, and from every 40 minutes to every 80 minutes during the late evening on Saturday and the daytime on Sundays and holidays.

• There will be no change to service on the route south of McNaughton Road, which will continue to be every 30 minutes during the daytime and early evening on Saturday, and every 40 minutes during the late evening on Saturday and the daytime on Sundays and holidays.

46 Martin Grove & 300 Bloor-Danforth

Route change

• The 46 Martin Grove route will be changed so that all buses, at all times, operate to and from Kipling Station via Kipling Avenue and St Albans Road, over the same routing as the 45 Kipling route, instead of via Bloor Street and Aukland Road. The eastbound routing of the 300 Bloor-Danforth overnight route at the Six Points will be changed, so that the overnight routing matches the new routing of the 46 Martin Grove route.

• Buses on the 300 Bloor-Danforth route will operate via Bloor Street, Aukland Road, and Dundas Street, in both directions. This change will remove TTC service from Bloor Street, between Kipling Avenue and Aukland Road.

134 Progress

Seasonal service reduction

• Service will be reduced during the morning peak period from Monday to Friday, as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to Centennial College. Service on the 134C (Scarborough Centre Stn-Centennial College) branch will change from every 5 minutes to every 8 minutes.

501 Queen

• Starting Sunday, May 11 until Saturday, June 21, the 501 Queen and 301 Queen over night route will operate as a split service. Streetcars will run between Long Branch Loop and Roncesvalles Avenue and between Sunnyside Loop and Neville Park loop, as shown below. Customers wishing to continue their trip, in either direction, must transfer at Queen & Roncesvalles.

86 Scarborough

Seasonal route extension to Toronto Zoo

• The route will be extended to the Toronto Zoo on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, until approximately 8:30 p.m. Buses will operate on the same 86A (Kennedy Stn-Toronto Zoo) routing to the zoo as they do from Monday to Friday. There will be no change to service levels.

Later service to Toronto Zoo — Seasonal service change

• Later service will be provided from the Toronto Zoo in the early evening from Monday to Friday, to match the later closing time of the zoo, at 7:30 p.m. The last trip to Kennedy Station will leave from the zoo at approximately 8:30 p.m.

85 Sheppard East

Later service to Toronto Zoo — Seasonal service change

• Later service will be provided from the Toronto Zoo in the early evening on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, to match the later closing time of the zoo, at 7:30 p.m. The last trips to Don Mills Station and to Rouge Hill GO Station will leave from the zoo at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Weekend service elimination – York Region Transit request

• Direct service from Don Mills Station to York Region on the 224D Victoria Park North route on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays will be eliminated, at the request of York Region Transit. Service will continue to be operated between Don Mills Station and Steeles Avenue on a new 224A (Don Mills Stn-Steeles) branch, during the daytime on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. • York Region Transit will replace the TTC-operated 224D (Don Mills Stn-Major Mackenzie) service north of Steeles Avenue on weekends and holidays with a new service. 

• The new YRT Route 224B – Woodbine Avenue service will operate between Victoria Park Avenue & Steeles Avenue and Woodbine Avenue & Major Mackenzie Drive. Buses will operate every 60 minutes. Customers will be required to pay an additional fare at Steeles and Don Mills when connecting between YRT and TTC services. Free transfers will not be allowed between YRT and TTC services.

Service changes – Service Improvements for 2003

• Service will be changed, so that all service operates via Rangoon Road, and all service north of Eglinton Avenue operates northbound via Skyway Avenue and southbound via Carlingview Drive. With this change, all regular service will be removed from Renforth Drive, between Gentian Road and Eringate Drive, and from Eringate Drive, between Renforth Drive and Wellesworth Drive. These changes will be made at all times. There will be no change to service levels, or to the routing of trips which serve Michael Power/St. Joseph High School on school days.

• On the north-end on-street loop on Skyway and Carlingview, the end of the line will change in the morning and in the afternoon, to minimise the number of customers who must wait out a layover on the bus. In the morning, buses will travel over the entire on-street loop and the end of the line will be southbound on Carlingview Drive north of International Boulevard. In the afternoon, the end of the line will be at the beginning of the on-street loop, on International Boulevard just west of Carlingview Drive.

• Service will be increased between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. early Saturday mornings (late Friday nights) and early Sunday mornings (late Saturday nights) to reduce crowding and improve service reliability. The northbound service from Queens Quay will be improved from every 15 minutes to every 7 minutes 30 seconds.

Seasonal service reduction

• Seasonal service reductions will be made, to match reduced ridership levels during the summer as a result of reduced travel to and from York University. Service will operate every 10 minutes in the peak periods and every 15 minutes during the midday from Monday to Friday. There will be no change to service in the early evenings or on Saturday.
