  • See 501 Queen for full details - Streetcar track reconstruction

505 Dundas

Seasonal trip travel time increase

  • There is busy customer and automobile traffic on Dundas Street through downtown during the midday and afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday in the summer. In anticipation of this congestion, the schedules will be adjusted to give additional trip time through downtown.

End of temporary route change — Streetcar track construction

  • Streetcar service will return, after being removed on Saturdays and Sundays in May and early June because of track construction at car stops along the route.

111 East Mall

Temporary trip travel time increase — City of Toronto bridge reconstruction

  • Additional time will be added to trips which operate over the Eglinton Avenue bridge over Etobicoke Creek (just east of the East Mall) as a result of the City of Toronto project to rebuild this bridge. The road will remain open over the bridge, but will be restricted to one lane in each direction. This project will begin in the early summer, and will last for approximately six months. All trips on the 111 East Mall route and on the 32B Eglinton West (Renforth/Skyway-Eglinton Stn) branch will continue to operate over the present route. To reduce the effects of traffic delays, additional trip time and buses will be added to these services at busy times.

32 Eglinton West

Peak period summer reduction

  • Service will be reduced Monday-Friday during the peak periods. 32D buses will run every 14 minutes, instead of every 12-13 minutes, in the morning peak and every 12-13 minutes, instead of 9-10 minutes, in the afternoon peak. A frequent  peak period service is provided by the 32B and 32D branches.

15 Evans

Temporary trip travel time increase — City of Toronto bridge reconstruction

  • Additional time will be added to trips which operate over the Royal York Road bridge over Etobicoke Creek (south of Bloor Street) as a result of the City of Toronto project to rebuild this bridge. The road will remain open over the bridge, but will be restricted to one lane in each direction. This project will begin in the early summer, and will last approximately six months. All trips on the 15 Evans and 76 Royal York South routes will continue to operate over the present route. To reduce the effects of traffic delays, additional trip time and buses will be added to these services at busy times.

121 Front-Esplanade

Seasonal hours of operation increase

  • The hours of operation and service levels will be increased on the summer extension to Ontario Place. Between April 30 and June 10, this extension operates from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, to correspond with Ontario Place's early-season hours. From June 11, the extension will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., seven days a week, to correspond with Ontario Place's later summer hours. Service will be operated every 15 minutes at most times of the week.

  • In order to reduce the effects of traffic congestion on Front Street and Spadina Avenue, the route will be split downtown during the afternoon peak period, and buses will operate separately on the 121B (Ontario Place and Exhibition-Union Station and Yonge Street) and 121D (Union Station-Commissioners) branches.

  • This extension will be scheduled until Saturday, July 22, 2000. After that date, the 121 Front-Esplanade route will be eliminated. Service west of Union Station will be replaced by the new 509 Harbourfront streetcar route, and service east of Union Station will be replaced by extended service on the 72 Pape and 65 Parliament routes.

83 Jones

Elimination of last trip

  • The last trip, southbound from Donlands Station, departing at 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays, will be eliminated due to low ridership.

The last day of service on the extended route will be Labour Day, Monday, September 4, 2000.

54 Lawrence East

Afternoon peak period summer reduction

  • Service will be reduced Monday-Friday during the afternoon peak period. 54, 54A and 54E buses will each run every 12 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes (15 minutes on the 54E).

New express stops

  • Two new stops have been added to the westbound service of the 54E Lawrence East Express (Lawrence East Stn-Starspray Blvd) service, at Rushley Drive and Midland Avenue. The addition of these stops has increased the number of customers who are able to take advantage of the express service, and will thus reduce overcrowding on the local buses on the 54 and 54A branches. This change was made during February.

57 Midland

Trip travel time increase

  • The north-end routing of the 57 Midland route was changed in January 2000 when the on-street loop at Midland and Steeles was closed and buses began to turn over a new on-street loop on Passmore, Silver Star, Steeles, and Midland. Since then, it has been found that an additional two to three minutes of round trip time are required so that the service can operate reliably. This time will be added to the schedules for June 2000.

131 Nugget

Cars on the 502 Downtowner route will operate as far west as Victoria Street only, and will turn around via west on Queen, south on Church, west on Richmond, north on Victoria, and east on Queen. There will be no replacement bus service during this project.

  • During the work between Spadina Avenue and University Avenue 501 Queen streetcars will be diverted as shown below. There will be no replacement bus service during this project.

  • During the work between Shaw Street and Spadina Avenue, 501 Queen streetcars will be diverted as shown below. There will be no replacement bus service during this project.

501-phase3

  • On the 504 King streetcar route, additional trip time will be added on King Street, between approximately 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., from Monday to Friday, to compensate for the additional traffic congestion which is expected as a result of the track construction on Queen Street.

  • Customers who normally use the streetcar stops on Queen Street will have to walk to King Street or Dundas Street, or to any of the intersecting north-south transit services. While one lane will be kept open for most road traffic on Queen Street through the construction site, this lane will be too narrow for buses.

  • These temporary route changes will last from June 11 until the middle of August.

80 Queensway

Buses on this branch operate clockwise on Sante Drive and Adesso Drive, instead of counter-clockwise, as was previously planned. This revised routing allows for easier turns than the originally-planned routing.

  • This temporary routing is required because of the City of Toronto project to rebuild the bridge which runs through the intersection of Jane Street and Steeles Avenue. The routing change began on May 1, and will last until mid-October.

53 Steeles East

  • The trips which leave from Markham Road at 4:47 and 5:17 a.m. will be changed to leave at 4:45 and 5:15 a.m., and will be scheduled to arrive at Finch Station at 5:22 and 5:52 a.m. to improve schedule adherence and the ability for customers to connect with early-morning subway service at Finch Station.
