Service changes for September 3, 2000

Service changes for July 2000

Main

Service changes for October 2000

Bloor-Danforth Subway

Step-back operation

  • Service will be improved during peak periods from Monday to Friday by the introduction of new operating procedures at Kennedy Station and Kipling Station which will reduce the time that trains spend at the terminals. This will reduce delays for customers on trains waiting to enter the terminal stations, and will also allow a more-frequent service to be operated over the whole line. During the morning peak period, the service will be improved from every 2 min 27 s to every 2 min 24 s. During the afternoon peak period, the service will be improved from every 2 min 38 s to every 2 min 34 s.

Running time increase

  • The round trip running time will be increased in the midday from Monday to Friday, to improve the reliability of service. The service will be changed from every 4 min 43 s to every 4 min 53 s.

Service increase

  • Three new round trips will be added, leaving from Kennedy Station between 8:45 and 9:00 a.m. from Monday to Friday, to reduce the overcrowding that occurs on the present westbound trips at this time.

Scarborough RT

Service improvements, service increase

  • The capacity of the line will be improved at all times of the week. During the morning peak periods from Monday to Friday, the running time will be reduced and new operating procedures will be introduced to reduce the time required at the terminals. Service will be improved from every 3 min 50 s to every 3 min 30 s. During the afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday, the running time will be reduced and one train will be added, and the service will be improved from every 4 min 36 s to every 3 min 40 s. At all other times, the running time will be reduced, and the service will be improved from every 5 min 45 s to every 5 min 30 s.

  • During the peak periods these changes will increase the capacity of the service, but not enough to deal with the present overcrowding, nor to accommodate all of the customers who would prefer to ride the Scarborough RT but who are now using bus services in the area as an alternative. To accommodate more customers, an express bus service will be introduced during the peak periods from Monday to Friday between Kennedy Station and Scarborough Centre Station, on the 131 Nugget route.

6 Bay

Removal of 6A branch in morning

  • The schedule of the 6 Bay route will be changed in the morning peak period from Monday to Friday so that buses operate on only two branches, the 6 (Dupont-Jarvis via Docks) and 6B (Bloor-Dundas) branches. The 6A (Bloor-Front and Lake Shore) branch will no longer operate in the morning, but will continue in the afternoon peak period.

  • Service will be increased during the midday from Monday to Friday, to reduce overcrowding. Service will be improved from every 6 min 20 s to every 5 min 45 s.

87 Cosburn

Vehicle type change

  • The schedule will be changed so that buses which run only during the peak periods from Monday to Friday will be assigned standard 40-foot buses instead of lift-equipped buses. 39 Finch East

Retirement of articulated buses and service increase

  • The TTC's fleet of Ikarus articulated buses is being retired before September 2000 because of premature corrosion. These buses are now used on the 39 Finch East and 53 Steeles East routes, primarily on the 39E and 53E express branches. The articulated buses will be replaced by 40-foot buses. Because of the lower capacity of the 40-foot buses, a greater number of 40-foot buses will be used to replace the articulated buses, and service will operate more frequently. In addition to the replacement of the articulated buses, service will be increased on this route because of increasing ridership.

  • In the afternoon peak period, the 39A (Finch Stn-McCowan) and 39B (Finch Stn-Birchmount) local branches will be rescheduled, so that they are evenly-spaced every 3 to 4 minutes and so that they, along with the express service, provide an evenly-spaced service every one-to-two minutes from Finch Station.

Service to Exhibition Place will also be changed to start at approximately 9:00 a.m., seven days a week, about one hour later than during the summer.

  • Service levels will be reduced at other times, because the 510 Spadina streetcar service will return to Queens Quay after the temporary bus replacement in July and August.
