TTC Holiday Service 2002-2003

Yonge-University-Spadina Subway

Earlier service

  • New earlier service will be operated, southbound from Finch Station from Monday to Friday. The first southbound train will depart from Finch Station at 5:40 a.m., approximately 14 minutes earlier than the present first train. There will be no change to northbound times, or to first trip times on Saturdays and Sundays. The times of early bus trips on several routes will be adjusted to meet the new subway first trip times.

Yonge Subway Closure

Yonge Subway Sunday Morning Closure - Extended closures until December 29 (with the exception of Sunday November 24).

Sheppard Subway 

  • Providing fast, reliable service to five subway stations running under Sheppard Avenue East, between Yonge Street and Don Mills Road. Trains run every five to six minutes, from 6:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. Sundays) to 2:00 a.m. All stations on the Sheppard Subway have elevators and are fully-accessible.

Sheppard Subway

New service 

  • Service will begin on the new Sheppard subway, operating between Sheppard-Yonge Station and Don Mills Station. Three intermediate stations will be served, at Bayview, Bessarion, and Leslie. Service will operate every 5 minutes 30 seconds, from approximately 6:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. Sundays) to 2:00 a.m. In the morning, the first westbound trip will connect at Sheppard-Yonge Station with the first southbound trip on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway, and at the end of the day the last eastbound trip will connect at Sheppard-Yonge Station with the last northbound trip on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway.

Station information

Don Mills Station – Fare-paid bus bays; no transfers required between bus and subway.

Leslie Station – No transfers required between 51 Leslie bus and subway. Transfers required for 85 Sheppard East buses, which do not enter the bus terminal.

Bessarion Station – Transfers required between bus and subway.

Bayview Station – Transfers required between bus and subway.

Sheppard-Yonge Station – Fare-paid bus bays; no transfers required between 84 Sheppard West, 98 Willowdale-Senlac, 196 York University Rocket or 85 Sheppard East buses and subway. Transfers required for 97 Yonge buses, which do not enter the bus terminal.

TTC commuter parking

Don Mills Station – Approximately 366 spaces in the parking garage. Access will be by $4 cash only before 9:30 a.m., Monday-Friday. Free access at all other times (rates and times subject to change).

Leslie Station – Approximately 110 spaces in surface parking lot south of the bus terminal, west side of Old Leslie Street. Access will be by Metropass only (subject to change).

Sheppard Subway - Bus Route Changes

25 Don Mills

Service to Don Mills Station

  • All buses will operate through Don Mills Station, in both directions. Service will continue to operate on the 25 Don Mills (Pape Stn-Steeles) and 25D Don Mills (Pape Stn-16th Ave) branches. There will be no change to service levels except during the late evening from Monday to Friday, when the service will change from every 13 minutes 20 seconds to every 12 minutes, and during the late evening on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, when the service will change from every 12 minutes 40 seconds to every 15 minutes.

Routing

Northbound – From Pape Stn, north on Pape Avenue, north on Leaside Bridge, east on Overlea Boulevard, north on Don Mills Road, through Don Mills Stn (Don Mills entrance and Don Mills exit), north on Don Mills Road to route.

Southbound – From existing route south on Don Mills Road, through Don Mills Stn (Don Mills entrance and Don Mills exit), south on Don Mills Road, west on Overlea Boulevard, south on Leaside Bridge, south on Pape Avenue to Pape Stn.

Fares

  • Service north of Steeles Avenue is in the York Region fare zone. A valid York Region fare must be paid.

39 Finch East

Revised service 

  • This route will continue to operate between Neilson Road and Finch Station. Service will be reduced in the peak periods on the express branches, and the resources will be used to operate the new 139 Finch East express service between Neilson & Finch and Don Mills Station. The combined service west of McCowan Road on the 39C/39E Finch East express branches will be every 4 minutes 40 seconds during the morning peak period, and every 6 minutes during the afternoon peak period. There will be no change to service on the local branches during the peak periods, or at off-peak times.

139 Finch East

New route 

  • New Monday-Friday peak period express service will be operated, between Neilson Road & Finch Avenue and Don Mills Station. Buses will serve all stops on Finch Avenue, and will run express southbound on Highway 404 and northbound on Don Mills Road. Two branches will be operated, 139E Finch East (Don Mills Stn-Neilson & Finch) and 139C Finch East (Don Mills Stn-McCowan & Finch). The combined service west of McCowan Avenue will be every 5 minutes during the morning peak period, and every 7 minutes 30 seconds during the afternoon peak period. Standard buses will be used, and this route will not be accessible to customers in mobility devices.

Westbound – From Crow Trail and Neilson Road, north and west on Crow Trail, north on Baldoon Drive, west on Finch Avenue, south on Highway 404, south on Fairview Mall Drive, west on Sheppard Avenue to Don Mills Stn (Sheppard entrance). Buses operate express between Finch & Cherokee and Don Mills Stn.

Eastbound – From Don Mills Stn (Don Mills exit), north on Don Mills Road, east on Finch Avenue to Neilson Road, south on Neilson Road to Crow Trail. Buses operate express between Don Mills Stn and Finch & Don Mills.

169 Huntingwood

Service to Don Mills Station

  • This route will be changed to operate to Don Mills Station, instead of Sheppard-Yonge Station. All service will operate on the 169 Huntingwood (Don Mills Stn-Scarborough Centre) branch. The service will change from every 17 minutes 30 seconds to every 20 minutes in the morning peak period, and from every 19 minutes to every 20 minutes in the afternoon peak period.

Westbound/southbound – From Scarborough Centre Station, east on Triton Road, north on McCowan Road, west and north on Commander Boulevard, west on Huntingwood Drive, south on Victoria Park Avenue, and west on Sheppard Avenue to Don Mills Station (Sheppard entrance).

51 Leslie

Service to Leslie Station 

  • All buses will operate through Leslie Station, in both directions. Service will continue to operate between Eglinton Station and Steeles Avenue. Direct service will be provided, in both directions, through the North York General Hospital grounds.

  • During the morning peak period, the service will change from every 14 minutes to every 15 minutes. During the midday from Monday to Friday, the service will change from every 20 minutes to every 22 minutes. During the afternoon peak period, the service will change from every 16 minutes to every 18 minutes. During the early evening from Monday to Friday, there will be no change to the 20 minutes service. On Saturdays, the service will change from every 25 minutes to every 30 minutes.

Northbound – From Eglinton Stn, north on Yonge Street, east on Eglinton Avenue, north on Leslie Street, east and north through the North York General Hospital grounds, west on the overpass over Leslie Street, west and north on Old Leslie Street, through Leslie Station, south and east on Old Leslie Street, north on Leslie Street, east on Steeles Avenue, and south on Townsend Road to Freshmeadow Drive.

67 Pharmacy

Route change

  • Service north of Ellesmere will be replaced by the new 167 Pharmacy North route from Don Mills Station. There will be no change to service on the 67A Pharmacy (Victoria Park Stn-Eglinton) or 67 Pharmacy (Victoria Park Stn-Ellesemere) branches, except during the daytime on Saturday, when service will be changed from every 20 minutes to every 22 minutes.

167 Pharmacy North

New route 

  • Monday-Friday peak period, midday, and Saturday daytime service will be operated between Don Mills Station and Steeles Avenue, replacing the 67B Pharmacy (Victoria Park Stn-Steeles) branch, and providing new direct service to the Sheppard Subway from Pharmacy Avenue, north of Sheppard Avenue. Service will operate every 20 minutes during the peak periods and on Saturdays, and every 30 minutes during the midday from Monday to Friday.

Eastbound/northbound – From Don Mills Stn (Sheppard exit), east on Sheppard Avenue, north on Pharmacy Road to Steeles Avenue.

190 Scarborough Centre Rocket

New route

  • New Monday-Friday peak period and midday limited-stop rocket service will be operated during the peak periods and midday from Monday to Friday between Don Mills Station and Scarborough Centre Station, replacing the 85G Sheppard East service to Scarborough Centre Station. Buses will stop at Don Mills Station, Warden Avenue, Birchmount Road, Kennedy Road, and Scarborough Centre Station only. Service will be operated every 10 minutes during the peak periods and every 15 minutes during the midday. All service will be accessible, and will be operated by low-floor buses (some buses may not be accessible).

85 Sheppard East

Revised service

  • This route will be changed so that all buses operate through Don Mills Station. Most service will operate as far west as Don Mills Station only, with reduced service operating on Sheppard Avenue between Don Mills Station and Sheppard-Yonge Station. The 85G Sheppard East (Sheppard Stn-Scarborough Centre Stn) branch to Scarborough Centre Station will be replaced by the 190 Scarborough Centre Rocket (Don Mills Stn-Scarborough Centre Stn) route. The 85C Sheppard East (Sheppard Stn-Victoria Park) branch to Victoria Park and Consumers Road will be replaced by the 24A Victoria Park (Victoria Park Stn-Don Mills Stn via Consumers Rd) branch. At the east end of the route, buses will continue to operate to Meadowvale, Toronto Zoo (weekends only), and Rouge Hill GO Station.

  • East of Don Mills Station to Meadowvale, Toronto Zoo, and Rouge Hill GO Station, buses will operate every 5 to 6 minutes during the peak periods, and every 6 to 20 minutes at off-peak times. West of Don Mills Station to Sheppard-Yonge Station, buses will operate every 10 to 11 minutes during the peak periods, and every 15 to 30 minutes at off-peak times.

  • The first westbound buses in the morning will be timed to connect with the first westbound trains at Don Mills Station. New later trips at the end of the day will be added, seven days a week, so that the last eastbound bus departures from Don Mills Station connect with the last eastbound train arrivals, and the last westbound bus arrivals at Don Mills Station connect with the last westbound train departures.

  • Accessible service on this route will be expanded, and will now be offered between Sheppard-Yonge Station and Meadowvale Loop/Toronto Zoo. Lift-equipped buses will be used on many trips (not all buses and not all stops are accessible). Accessible service will be removed from stops formerly served by the 85C Sheppard East (Sheppard Stn-Victoria Park) branch in the Consumers Road area, as this service will be replaced by the 24A Victoria Park (Victoria Park Stn-Don Mills Stn via Consumers Rd) branch, which is not accessible.

Service to Don Mills Station 

  • This route will be changed to operate to Don Mills Station, instead of Sheppard-Yonge Station. All service will operate on the new local 10 Van Horne (Don Mills Stn-Victoria Park) branch, and there will be no express operation on this route. Service will be reduced during the peak periods, from every 5 minutes 33 seconds to every 7 minutes 30 seconds in the morning, and from every 7 minutes 30 seconds to every 10 minutes in the afternoon. There will be no change to the 30 minutes midday and early evening service.

Westbound/southbound – West on Van Horne Avenue over present route, south on Don Mills Road to Don Mills Station (Don Mills entrance). Buses serve all stops.

Northbound/eastbound – From Don Mills Stn (Don Mills exit), north on Don Mills Road, east on Van Horne Avenue to present route. Buses serve all stops.

Service to Don Mills Station 

  • The 24A Victoria Park (Victoria Park Stn-Consumers Rd) branch will be extended to Don Mills Station, and will be renamed the 24A Victoria Park (Victoria Park Stn-Don Mills Stn via Consumers Rd) branch. This branch will replace the 85C Sheppard East service to Victoria Park and Consumers Road. Service will operate during the peak periods and midday from Monday to Friday. Service will be every 12 minutes during the morning peak period, every 30 minutes during the midday, and every 10 minutes 20 seconds during the afternoon peak period. The 24C Victoria Park (Victoria Park Stn-14th Ave) and 24D Victoria Park (Victoria Park Stn-Major Mackenzie) branches will be replaced by the new 224 Victoria Park North route from Don Mills Station.

New route

  • This new route will operate between Don Mills Station and 14th Avenue/Major Mackenzie Drive, providing new direct service to the Sheppard Subway from Victoria Park Avenue, north of Sheppard Avenue. The new 224C Victoria Park North (Don Mills Stn-14th Ave) branch will replace the 24C Victoria Park (Victoria Park Stn-14th Ave) branch, and will operate during the peak periods from Monday to Friday. The new 224D Victoria Park North (Don Mills Stn-Major Mackenzie) branch will replace the 24D Victoria Park (Victoria Park Stn-Major Mackenzie) branch, and will operate during the Monday-Friday peak periods, midday, and early evening; and Saturday, Sunday and holiday daytime and early evening. Combined service during the peak periods will be every 15 minutes. Service at off-peak times will be every 30 to 40 minutes. Service north of Steeles Avenue is operated under contract to York Region Transit.

Route change

  • Service north of Steeles Avenue will be replaced by the new 268 Warden North route from Don Mills Station. There will be no change to service on the 68 Warden route between Warden Station and Steeles Avenue.

268 Warden North

New route

  • This new service will operate between Don Mills Station and 16th Avenue, replacing the 68B Warden (Warden Stn-16th Ave) branch, providing new direct service to the Sheppard Subway from Warden Avenue, north of Sheppard Avenue. Service will operate on the 268 Warden North (Don Mills Stn-16th Ave) branch during the Monday-Friday peak periods, midday, and early evening; and Saturday, Sunday and holiday daytime and early evening. Service will operate every 16 minutes in the morning peak period, every 20 minutes in the afternoon peak period, and every 40 minutes at off-peak times. Service north of Steeles Avenue is operated under contract to York Region Transit.

Eastbound/northbound – From Don Mills Stn (Sheppard exit), east on Sheppard Avenue, north on Warden Avenue, west on 16th Avenue, north on Village Gate Drive to Calvert Drive.

Southbound/westbound – From Calvert Drive and Village Gate Drive, east on Calvert Drive, south on Warden Avenue over present 68B route, then west on Sheppard Avenue to Don Mills Stn (Sheppard entrance).

Sheppard Subway - Other Transit Authorities

YRT Route 90 – Leslie to Don Mills Station

  • York Region Transit will extend their Route 90 – Leslie to Don Mills Station, effective November 25, 2002. The route will operate during the peak periods from Monday to Friday between Don Mills Station and Highway 7/Leslie in Markham. At off-peak times, the route will operate as far south as Highway 7 only, and will not serve Don Mills Station. No passengers will be carried locally within Toronto, in the same way that York Region Transit now operates on Yonge Street between Steeles Avenue and Finch Station. GTA passes and valid York Region Transit fares only will be accepted.

Routing in Toronto

Southbound – South on Highway 404, west on Finch Avenue to Seneca College Newham Campus Loop, continuing west on Finch Avenue, south on Don Mills Road, east and south on Fairview Mall Drive, west on Sheppard Avenue. All customers will be discharged on Sheppard Avenue at a YRT stop outside the main entrance to Don Mills Station. Bus will then proceed empty into Don Mills Station (Sheppard entrance).

Northbound – From Don Mills Station (Don Mills exit), north on Don Mills Road, east on Finch Avenue to Seneca College Newham Campus Loop route, west on Finch Avenue, north on Don Mills Road.

Fare collection

Southbound – GTA passes and YRT fares only are valid on this service. No customers may board at stops south of Steeles Avenue. All customers must leave the bus before it enters Don Mills Station.

Northbound – GTA passes and YRT fares only are valid on this service. Customers boarding the bus in Don Mills Station will have paid a TTC fare to enter the fare-paid station area, and will pay a YRT fare when boarding the bus. Customers not connecting from the TTC can board the bus at a northbound YRT stop on Don Mills Road at Leith Hill Road, north of the shopping mall entrance. Customers may not leave the bus at stops south of Steeles Avenue.

GO Transit 

  • A walking connection is available between the TTC’s Leslie Station and GO Transit’s Oriole Station, on the Richmond Hill GO Train line.

61 Avenue Road North

Trip time change

  • The trip arriving at Eglinton Station at 5:52 a.m. from Monday to Friday will be adjusted to arrive approximately four minutes earlier at 5:48 a.m. This change will provide a more convenient transfer to the new first southbound subway departure from Eglinton Station at 5:53 a.m.

505 Dundas  and 504 King

Routing change

  • Streetcars on the 505 Dundas route will operate on the new south track at Dundas West Station, and will serve the new south platform. Cars on the 504 King route will continue to serve the north (original) platform track. These changes will improve service reliability on these routes, because streetcars on the one route will no longer be delayed by streetcars on the other route.

32 Eglinton West

Trip removed

  • A trip currently departing from Skymark Avenue at 5:04 a.m. and arriving at Eglinton Station at 5:55 a.m. from Monday to Friday will be removed. This trip is duplicated by a 307 Eglinton West Blue Night trip which departs from Pearson Airport Terminal 2 at 4:57 a.m. and arrives at Eglinton Station at 5:42 a.m.

36 Finch West

Trip time change

  • The trip arriving at Finch Station at 5:45 a.m. from Monday to Friday will be adjusted to arrive approximately eight minutes earlier at 5:37 a.m. This change will provide a more convenient transfer to the new first southbound subway departure from Finch Station at 5:40 a.m.

54 Lawrence East

Trip time change

  • The trip arriving at Eglinton Station at 5:53 a.m. from Monday to Friday will be adjusted to arrive approximately five minutes earlier at 5:48 a.m. This change will provide a more convenient transfer to the new first southbound subway departure from Eglinton Station at 5:53 a.m.

52 Lawrence West

Trip time change

  • The trip arriving at Lawrence Station at 5:50 a.m. from Monday to Friday will be adjusted to arrive approximately five minutes earlier at 5:45 a.m. This change will provide a more convenient transfer to the new first southbound subway departure from Lawrence Station at 5:50 a.m.
